Vasanth S. Sai’s cinematic homage to the “everyday” woman is a deeply moving work that focuses a critical lens on patriarchy, with outstanding performances by each of the lead actresses. The film captures the micro awakenings of identity and self-worth when family dynamics, early marriage, and pregnancy threaten to usurp the individuality of three women, unfolding across three different time periods. In each of the episodes, it is a simple action that prompts a significant change.
Vasanth’s fluid camerawork immerses us in the mundane lives of the protagonists, making the invisible work of women the center of the action, while revealing their heroic labor with great empathy and authenticity.
“Apart from the tight stories and the crisp storytelling, one of the most striking features of the movie is the use of silence… [serving] as a powerful symbol of their isolation.” Ruchika Agarwal, Feminism in India
